Creation of this data was made possible through funding from the Montana Homeland Security Taskforce GIS Subcommittee. The database was created by the United States Geological Survey, Montana National Spatial Data Infrastructure Partnership Office in Bozeman Montana. Certain existing data from the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), Bureau of Transportation Statistics ( BTS), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Hazard assessment (HAZUS) databases were used to initially populate the database. |

<DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>The Airports and Heliports database was originally developed by the U.S. Geological Survey and Montana Dept. of Administration/ITSD, as a geographic point layer of aircraft landing facilities in Montana. This original layer includes airports, heliports, STOLport's, ultralight and sea plane bases. It was edited at the Montana Department of Transportation in 2017 to show only Public Use airports. Attribute data was also modified in 2017 and a link was provided for each airport listed in the 2017 Airport Directory published by MDT Aeronautics Division. The link provides basic physical characteristics, location, and contact information for these landing facilities. There are 125 Public Use Airports; Some of them are privately owned.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV> |
